Houseboat Capsizes at Charles Mill Lake Park, Five Rescued


Ashland, OH – Around 2:30 p.m. on July 4th, Rangers from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) at Charles Mill Lake Park responded to an emergency call reporting a capsizing houseboat near Eagle Point Campgrounds. The vessel, a 1987 Aqua Cruiser Pontoon Houseboat, had nearly overturned with five people on board.

 

The rangers quickly arrived at the scene, rescuing all individuals from the water without any reported injuries. The quick response by the MWCD Rangers ensured the safety of all passengers in what could have been a dire situation.

 

On July 5, Smith Boat Recovery was called in to salvage the capsized houseboat. The operation was successfully completed, and the boat was recovered without further incident.

 

The owner of the houseboat, who was among those rescued, expressed immense gratitude towards the MWCD Rangers. "Their quick action and professionalism during such a stressful situation were incredible," the owner remarked. "A big thanks to John, Bob, and all the staff at Charles Mill Lake Park for their dedication and support."

 

The MWCD Rangers' exemplary handling of the emergency highlights their commitment to safety and service in the community.
