Ashland County, Ohio – In a ceremony, filled with emotion and pride, Angie Hamilton, a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. The promotion event, held this morning at the Sheriff's Office, saw the presence of fellow law enforcement officers, family, and friends.
Chief Deputy David Blake opened the ceremony, expressing gratitude for the attendees. "Thank you all for coming. It's always a joyous occasion when we get to celebrate a promotion. Our agency is growing, and with the increasing number of SRO's over the past couple of years, we felt the need for more oversight. Angie has been doing the job for quite a while, handling grant writing, and being the go-to person for schools during the summer. It only seems fitting to promote her to Sergeant," he said.
Blake outlined the changes in Hamilton’s job duties, which now include monthly visits to schools to interact with principals and superintendents, ensuring smooth operations and addressing any issues. "I think this transition will be great, making the process smoother for Captain Sims and me. Congratulations, Angie."
Sheriff E. Wayne Risner echoed Blake's sentiments, highlighting Hamilton's contributions over the years. "I've worked with Angie on various issues, and she has always been dedicated. Her ability to manage the DARE program and her relationships with school administrations are invaluable. This promotion is well-deserved," he said.
Hamilton, visibly moved, addressed the gathering with gratitude. "Good morning. I started with the Sheriff's Office in 1997, and after a brief stint at the State Patrol Academy, I returned and eventually found my passion working with kids as a DARE officer. This program's success is a testament to the support from my colleagues, family, and the community," she said.
She thanked various individuals, including Sheriff Risner, Chief Blake, Captain Sims, and her colleagues in the DARE and SRO teams. "I appreciate everyone who has helped make this program successful. My future goals are to keep the program strong with all of your help," she added.
The ceremony concluded with Sheriff Risner administering the oath to Hamilton, officially promoting her to Sergeant. "Angie has done an outstanding job for us. She's committed to this agency and law enforcement. I look forward to seeing the great things she'll accomplish in this new role," he said.
In a follow-up conversation, Chief Deputy Blake emphasized the rationale behind Hamilton’s promotion. "We've been discussing this for a couple of years, especially as our SRO program expanded. Angie has been performing these duties for a long time, and it was a natural fit to promote her to Sergeant. She has a great rapport with school administrators, making her the ideal candidate to manage and oversee our SRO program," he explained.
Hamilton's promotion is a testament to her dedication and the trust the Ashland County Sheriff's Office places in her abilities to lead and manage their growing SRO program.
